Different CO2 laser lens for different types of cutting and engraving

Did you know that CO2 lasers can use various CO2 Laser Lens for tailored cutting and engraving? Here’s a guide to help you understand how different lens options can enhance your laser’s performance.

BMLaser CO2 Laser Lens Options

We offer three main lens varieties—1.5”, 2”, and 3”. Each lens has a 20mm diameter, while the 1.5”, 2”, and 3” measurements refer to the focal length: the distance between the lens and the focal point where the laser beam is hottest.

2” Lens

Our standard 2” lens offers a versatile balance between cutting and engraving. For engraving, the focal height is typically measured to the top of the material. When cutting, the focal height is adjusted partway through the material to ensure an even, concentrated heat distribution.

1.5” Lens

Ideal for engraving, the 1.5” lens offers a finer resolution and precision. While it can also handle cutting thin materials, the edges may be slightly angled. A shallow nozzle is often recommended for this lens to maintain proper air assist positioning.

3” Lens

Specialized for cutting, the 3” lens provides a larger area of concentrated heat, producing smoother edges on thicker materials. Its extended focal length results in less angular cuts but is not suited for engraving due to the wider dot size.
